Protectfully, a division of Priavo Security, is pleased to announce we are official partners and distributors of EMist® electrostatic disinfection across the UK and Europe. But how does electrostatic disinfection work and why is it relevant to you?

In a very short time, the pandemic has changed our world. Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a highly infectious virus and to protect your organisation’s health and your workforce it is important to take precautionary measures. With the virus able to live for days on surfaces thorough cleaning and disinfection measures are fast becoming a necessity in a phased return to business and working space.

Electrostatics is a branch of physics that studies the properties of stationary or slow-moving electric charges. Electrostatic phenomena are easily demonstrated when lint is attracted to clothes or when dust clings to a TV screen. These examples adhere to Coulomb’s law which states that opposite electrical charges attract and like charges repel.

Electrostatic spraying has been used for many decades in painting and agriculture. EMist® uses this same process to apply a charge to the liquid droplets of disinfectant. These “super-charged” droplets then actively seek out negative or neutral surfaces. As the droplets leave the nozzle the charged droplets repel one another, keeping them from coming together and forming larger droplets. In addition, due to the electrostatic charge droplets “wrap” around surfaces providing an even, consistent surface coverage.

When used as a method of killing viruses and applying disinfectant, this technology can minimise chemical use and labour times. Compared to current “wipe-and-go” disinfecting methods, electrostatic technology can eradicate human error, maximise virus kill, minimize inconsistent contact times and cross-contamination. It also reduces users exposure to surface pathogens through lack of contact.

Given the ongoing pandemic and the heightened need to disinfect indoor spaces to reduce the risk of exposure to coronavirus – it is worth investing in reliable and quality assured technology. These new measures reflect a significant shift in public awareness around cleaning and disinfection— an awareness that is sure to persist long after the pandemic is behind us.
